Here are some of the largest stock photography sites.

iStockphoto.com. iStockphoto is an online royalty free stock  photography provider that operates on the micropayment business model.  iStockphoto revolutionized the stock photography market with online sales of inexpensive, high quality stock photography.  iStockphoto provides professional quality stock photos for as little as $1 each. 

Photo buyers purchase download credits at a dollar or less a piece (you get a discount for purchasing bulk credits) These credits are used to purchase photos.  Royalty free vector graphics and video are also available. 

iStockphoto accepts submissions from photographers who want to sell their photos.  There is a review process for quality.

Bigstock.  Bigstock Photos offers royalty-free stock photos on a pay-as-you-go basis.  No subscriptions required and no minimum number of photos to buy.  Bigstock also accepts submissions from photographers who want to sell stock photos.

Corbis Images.  Rights-managed and royalty-free stock photography.  They sell their royalty-free images as "virtual cds" full of images in a category or gallery.

Getty Images:  Getty Images is a major player in the stock photography industry.  Getty was the first company to license imagery via the web, a step which the rest of the industry soon followed. 

Jupiter Images.  Jupiter Images handles images from Getty Images and 50 other collections.  Both royalty-free and rights-managed images are available.
